AIS runs great, with little downtime. Due to the changes in the computer we host the reliability of ais reception is better than before. Together with a couple of friends I'm working on a database solution for plotting ships instead of uploading images every minute. The Meldkamer webcam which has a view over the New Waterway can be found here. It a highly sensitive CCD camera, which looks to the west, direction of the North Sea. A great combination to AIS reception we think. The current antenna, a Procomm CX-4, was a donation of Sperry Marine, a division of Northrop Grumman, thanks a million guys! It gets even better, COAA the astronomy holiday centre (make sure you pay them a visit if you're in Portugal), the makers of Shipplotter, the current software solution we use for aisholland, has provided us with a free license, thank you very much Bev! Our control room hosts a variety of professional security solutions to the logistic and transportation sector, as well as marine cargo and vessel security. We have several Tracking and Tracing systems, some use sattelite communication and can be traced anywhere either abroad, in the air or at sea. Others use a combination of GPS and GPRS or regular cellulair services, these units are mostly used for freight monitoring in trucks.
Since HAM radio is a long time hobby of both the Directors R de Jong, J van den Berg and me, we have setup several receivers and transceivers for shortwave and VHF/UHF communication. In respect to that history we have great dedication to the work we do and the security business in general, with our control room as the center of operations. Just recently I made a pretty nice panorama picture of the awesome view we have from our control room at Meldkamer Vlaardingen! Feel free to click the photo to download a full-size version.
